Cliché metaphors like
"blink of an eye" simply don't communicate real scale or urgency.

Pat figurative phrases risk being mind numbing and soporific.

Don't Look Up reflects the challenge : how to make accurate comprehensible metaphors to compellingly communicate staggering new orders of impacts.

"how can someone not at least find it interesting watching a whole planet shift geological ages in the blink of an eye?"

But then switch metaphors, "speed of light fast"

Speed of Eye Blink: 0.2 m/s
Speed of Light: 299,792,458 m/s

Speed of light : 1,5-bn times faster.

Houston, we have a problem.

Hunting Scenes from Bavaria,
1969. West German Oscar submission. I wanted to learn German, just started, bravely went to Boston Art Museum film festival. Recognized two words: Horse and Church. So proud! Fast forward a few decades, it's better. Journey of a thousand miles began with two film words.

In The Movies film house in Amsterdam, drinking a beer, in a glass, seeing Pulp Fiction when Travolta says to Jackson, "Europe is different. You can walk into a movie theater in Amsterdam and buy a beer. And I don't mean just like in no paper cup, I'm talking about a glass of beer." Epic.

Interactive Barbie. My heart'd been set on a gigamongous screen. But fate brought us to our tiny local art cinema. We caved. Ridiculous oversize red upholstered armchairs. Two older women next to us cackling away in their own parallel Oscar worthy narration. Greta Gerwig move over.

Aerosols impacts have actually been attracting serious enquiry and attention for centuries, from multiple perspectives. Scientists aren't the only eyes able to see what's happening in the sky.

Wise words, yet with all respect, perhaps consider this modal: "COULD."
Many complex ecosystems are evolving into new territories.
Estimates predict & project what COULD happen, based on past system dynamics & data.
New realities add unknown unknowns. Black swans. Estimates = likelihoods of COULD.

Infinite Free Energy

Over time, after initial capital costs get amortized, the running costs approach zero. The more you use it, the cheaper it gets.

Extend that into the future : Calculate total costs over infinite time horizon, the trend approaches zero. Remaining costs become negligible ♾️

This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly

Throughout history, rich & poor countries lent, over-borrowed, crashed in financial crises. Each time the experts chimed, "Ignore the past, this time is different."

“It will be Too Cheap to Meter.”

"Speech Sept.16, 1954 by Lewis L. Strauss, Navy officer appointed Chairman of U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in 1953 by President Eisenhower.

Iconic ironic words promising a great big free lunch Utopia. Over 70 years ago.

Voor wie beide kent was ondertitelingsfout meteen overduidelijk.

Rudolf Steiner, Austrian esotericist (1861–1925)

George Steiner, writer, literary critic philosopher (1929–2020)

Eerste keer dat ik Steiner (George) las, was het zo briljant het deed pijn.

Rudolf, minder.

Despite recent years record temperatures and increasing anomalies, strikes me as strange in graphic to see 2025 Arctoc sea ice extent appear to track so closely to 2010s. Many factors (feedbacks) suggest to expect the opposite: and deviation to amplify. But I don't seem to see it here. Thoughts?

"As expected, the year-to-year variations are very similar, but there are notable divergences between 1996 and 1999 that are (mostly) related to the treatment of data from NOAA-14 which had a large orbital and instrumental drift."
