If you have a SLA or TOS with any corporation and their software to store data and keep it secure what matters is how securely the data is kept and what permissions you have granted. Research needs to have major control over data. Dumb Terminal for raw data and preprocessing.

Does any social media or internet entity care if it is legal? Machines, data brokers and whoever else theoretically have access to your research and data. Most have no ethics and use a catch me if you can approach . Most small entities have no means of taking action so the unethical take advantage.

I agree it's super inconvenient. I teach also . I just treat it like a low attendance day and divert my lesson plan to either a reading assignment , vocab assignment or you tube videos with questions. Most won't do it anyway, but I do my job log in take attendance and get it done. High School.
