As you get better, you will get to know your decks and learn their weaknesses and strengths.

Once you have these down, you can recognize what cards you can let opponents keep, which cards you can lose, and when it is appropriate to not negotiate. You learn what is and isn't your problem.

Additionally, one of your most powerful tools is silence & listening (when it's not your turn).

Commander is a social game, so chatter is a part of the experience, but when you focus on listening and watching, you are less likely to miss details, and keep attention away from yourself.

On the receiving end, if you are ever offered a deal like 'If you don't attack me, I won't do X!', you should probably assume that, if you're playing to win, the deal maker is about to set themselves up to overtake the board, and it'll be a bad deal for you. But if it's casual? Deals are FUN!

Bringing attention to cards at the table can influence where removal effects or attacks go. I've been in games with long-time players, and maybe they just assume folks know which cards are powerful, but pointing out draw engines or serious mana producers alerts everyone who may be unaware!

One way to begin exploring table politics with barely any experience under your belt is to ask questions; even if you aren't familiar with cards or strategies, players having to explain themselves causes other people, even veterans, to also stop and reassess the situation.

So go ahead; let yourself actually enjoy something in this hell timeline.

We can defeat the haters by embracing joy and gratitude. Like every single one of that furry artist's posts about Revali. Post your grainy Magic Tutorial Video.

I'm sappy tonight, so love's my answer for most things. Thanks!

'Influencers' I love to watch are constantly enjoying and celebrating their friends' art. There are no art 'protagonists'.

You influence the world simply by existing and sharing yourself with other people. And that's through your presence of loving what they made, or sharing art.

So where is this rabbit-trail post going?

'Influencers' who enjoy what they do most likely have boundaries to focus on enjoying what they make and make what *THEY* want to see in the world.

So don't make stuff to influence or be influenced. That'll happen whether you're trying or not.

I made this account 'cuz I've wanted a spot to spout off for YEARS.

If y'all like it? Dope. But this is for me. These thoughts are precious enough that I WANT to share them with you.

Like on the playground, when your friend found that cool Pikachu-shaped rock they kept specifically to show you.

The moment you tie attention solely to success, and big numbers equal good, you are giving up control of something you love.

Something you loved enough to create and share, all of a sudden, is at the mercy of someone who will never understand your art anywhere near as intimately as you.
January 22, 2026 at 4:13 AM
Play and art are deep in our very souls (and honestly, DNA if any of y'all anthropologists wanna pipe up).

Getting attention for what we create as being 'good' is tied to our dopamine receptors since recognition keeps us 'SAFE'. And that's cool!

So then what's the deal with burnt-out influencers?
January 22, 2026 at 4:13 AM
There is NOTHING wrong with wanting to create and share things on the internet.

That's like, one of the best parts, right? Like, how else would I get memes I love?

But you are a human. We are story-tellers and artists at our very core, and we need to enjoy AND create.

I am a prosy guy and a romantic.

It's something that being a nurse and the general rancid vibes of the last decade has doused a bit, but dad-gummit, I'm still a perky peppy dog man who loves his cardboard and pretending to be a cleric and belting simple and clean.

So let's get Geeky.

So my first lesson as a Mentor of the Geek;

Let yourself hope and love. Let yourself care about something so completely and entirely that you want to know everything about it. Every curve, every color, every note, and every aspect.

If it is healing and kind and wonderful, you *SHOULD* embrace it.
