however, right after her immediate rejection, she falls down on igor's chest, breaking down as she comes to the realisation of not only her illusions of a fantasy life with vanya completely shattering but also that she can't ever go back to the way things were as a sex worker now

igor falls under a similar illusion where he starts to develop a crush on anora despite anora consistently expressing anger and vitriol towards him and when anora gets on top of him, he makes an attempt to kiss her, which later veers into being forceful with anora immediately rejecting this

anora, despite being aware that her main motivation in her relationship with vanya is to get money out of him, tries to latch onto the illusion that nothing can go wrong for her when with vanya and attempts to connect with him beyond his wealth to no avail

a lot of people make the claim that igor and anora are connected through class struggle but i don't find myself seeing that
in fact, i'd say that anora and igor are moreso connected through being captured by the illusion of love

but at the same time, while i do believe that anora's fatal flaw of being allured by the cinderella fairytale life got the best of her, i don't really blame her for the way she reacted in her situation of captivity and her attempt to regain her former feelings of joy by initating sex with igor

on the other hand, i don't think igor is a total piece of shit as that would be a rather reductive black-and-white view of him
there are moments where igor does appear to show acts of care and kindness towards anora where he sticks out as the only person who's treating her like a genuine human being
November 27, 2024 at 12:07 PM
personally, i find myself leaning more towards the cynical perspective
in spite of igor's good intentions, anora's accusations of assault against igor still hold merit as he was involved in keeping her captive in vanya's house and i don't buy into the idea that it was him 'preventing her self-harm'

i might as well talk about what my takeaway from that final scene since there's a lot to dissect so spoilers ahead in this thread

there seems to be two camps of argument; one that's empathetic to igor and the other viewing him in a more negative light for what he did to anora
