Wholly disreputable, happy because you found me out. Work at MCEA, serve on Fridley EQEC and Planning Commission, this is personal.
Looks like 34-33 DFL MN Senate is back. Congratulations to Sens-elect Hemmingsen-Jaeger and Holmstrom. Now to the next special election!

Memo directs agencies to use "major questions doctrine" to preemptive repeal "illegal" regulations, and provide a brief justification through "good cause" rulemaking, where there is a "reasonably good" chance of prevailing on the merits. In other words, repeal and make other go the courts.

White House announces intent to quickly remove "ossified" rules that protect Americans from pollution, fraud and more through an expedited process with 28 day and 14 day comment periods and no tribal or state consultation.

Check out Room 5 at the MN Capitol circa 1905 (via the MN State Capitol Facebook page.) All of those inconvenient columns are pretty darn structural. This post is for #mnleg geeks.

Just a reminder that there's a better idea about what to do with the shuttered LTV/Erie plant site than putting NewRange/PolyMet's polluting copper-nickel sulfide mine proposal near it and dumping the toxic tailings in an unstable and leaky basin.

Two more months of waiting for PolyMet to release the result of their "studies" and tell everyone what they want to do with their busted and repudiated 2018/2019 permits. But it's not a "delay!" That press release was just an estimate! (Seems important to remember when reading future press releases)

Law enforcement is freaking out about Hennepin County ending prosecutions from low-level traffic stops - claiming it will lead to a crime wave. But Ramsey County did the same thing 5 years ago, and huh, check the results. Crime is way down! Why is nobody talking about this?

Meanwhile, taxing social media companies is very popular!

Note to politicians - giving big tax breaks to big tech billionaires for bigly huge data centers is remarkably unpopular. Just 12% of MN State Fairgoers surveyed support them! (Via MN Senate State Fair poll, full results: www.senate.mn/departments/...)

The MN Supreme Court has denied US Steel's petition to review the MPCA's rejection of a "site specific standard" downstream of the Keetac Mine. USS had proposed a 79 mg/L standard, 8x the 10 mg/L standard in law. MPCA denied it, USS appealed, and this is the end for that appeal.

I was on Isle Royale last week and got to visit the HQ of the moose/wolf research project (near Edison Fishery). Super cool to meet Dr. Rolf Peterson and volunteers. They have an incredible array of moose skulls and skeletons. This is just a small selection.

71% of Minnesotans, the highest in the nation, support stronger environmental protections. You'd never guess that was true if you just hung out at the MN Capitol, where these protections are under constant assault. Politicians should take note. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...

So, my live tweeting game is no good anymore! To tie it up -
- SF 2077 (Hawj) passed 35-30.
- No policy amendments were ultimately adopted after 2 votes to reconsider.
- Next: Thurs AM hearing on environment policy bill in committee.
Congratulations to Chair Hawj!
