📍Bournemouth, UK 🇬🇧 & Λάρνακα, Κύπρος 🇨🇾

Fun Fact: The English unitary authority area of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) is almost identical in size to Liechtenstein, the world's sixth smallest country. Liechtenstein's land area covers 99.5% of BCP’s land area, yet it is home to only 9.58% of BCP’s population.

🏡 Bournemouth needs more good-quality, affordable homes. But building houses alone isn’t enough; we must build communities.

That means planning new developments around transport, schools, green spaces, and health and local services that help people to thrive.

Diversity is our strength. I pay tribute to our local churches and the work they do to welcome asylum seekers and unite the communities of people from around the world who have chosen Bournemouth as their home.

Not sure if the algorithm will show this to many, but it's worth a shot: Who's actually championing the South West & South Central? I see endless posts calling for investment in London/North/Midlands, but our regions need that energy too. If you see this, please drop accounts worth following 👇

Love this building in Bournemouth - built 10 years ago, 6 floors, residential above retail - more of this density please.

The South West has great airports, but if you want to fly cheaply, frequently or anywhere that isn't Spain, you have to head to the South East. This funnels demand & worsens congestion. The M25 from the M3 - M40 is already terrible. With Heathrow expansion, it will only get worse.

I'd love to see some of these spring up around Bournemouth and Poole.

Absolutely mindblowing to think about what we had and have lost compared to what we have now in terms of a rail network around Bournemouth and Poole (and more generally in Dorset).

Hopefully, the Dorset Metro which seems to be a follow-on from DARTS can undo some of this over the next few decades.

#Dorset is big enough, I'm from south Dorset and always need to be reminded there's a north Dorset, how can a mayor spreading 4 councils really take time to care & accurately allocate funds across such a massive space - we aren't one city. Give the powers to councils.

Question for any BCP Cllrs here: Was the outcome of last night's debate and vote in favour of the Wessex deal the end of the story? Will there for instance be a local public referendum on the matter particularly as the local business community in the main expressed support for a Hants deal?

Very impassioned speech tonight @oliver-walters.bsky.social, a lot of food for thought. I still think whichever option is chosen, we still need to build a second road and rail line east in the future though 😉
BCP Council meet this evening to discuss devolution options. If we throw our lot in with Hants, IOW, Soton & Portsmouth then a new, joint fast rail corridor / M27 western extension needs serious consideration. Avoids the national park and should cut journey times between the airports, BCP & London.

A lot of local authorities up and down the country are in a proper pickle, but BCP (which in hindsight should never have been created) is in a pretty desperate place.

I really wish taking the train to London was my default option, but like the article states until fresh investment can be made, I will still continue to drive in on a needs basis. Affordability is one thing, but fixing the basics like functioning Wifi should be simple.
