Yeah, we're on the precipice of needing a new control board for our washer, and guess what? They don't make them anymore.

Are you on a VPN, or being routed through a large organization's (like a university's) network? If so, then the stream of traffic occasionally looks like it's hammering away from a single IP/gateway. That tends to trigger things like captchas more.

Ah yes. Eric Garner's famous last words were actually: "Breathing ain't all that".

Straws n-1 & n-2:

- claiming transformer matrices used in recurrent settings were "fuzzy logic chains"; fuzzy logic is underpinned by set theory+logic, not empirical or Bayesian statistics
- acting like a dick and then hanging a "change my mind" sign like the world should care

Bless their heart.

I'm embarrassed to own (not a car, but) a Tesla powerwall (battery) to accompany our solar panel installation back in 2020. But I vow to never spend another cent enriching that twerp.

About 15 years ago, folks across the entire company protested this "ask me later" pattern and the CEO (Larry, at the time) actually acknowledged it was bad, and reverted it in the products it was in. Since then the McKenzie-ization of the company has proceeded apace.

Shittiness ensued.

Let's make sure those shares he's awarded are worthless. Never buy a Tesla product again.

That "compressed model of the world" is exactly the "blurry JPEG" Ted Chiang talks about.

I feel like the reason we've been building poor products with this tech is that we mistake "statistical fit" for objective fact and intent, that are essential for products onto which this tech has been bolted.

OpenAI’s chatbot offers paraphrases, whereas Google offers quotes. Which do we prefer?

Totally agree with her "If you're a billionaire, why are you a billionaire?" statement.

In fact, I'm angry enough to say "If you're a billionaire, shame on you for still being one".

Because nobody *needs* a billion. Nobody.
