Dave, the local Anglican priest had his final Sunday here after well over 20 years in Moncton! I went and brought greetings at the beginning of his final mass. Prettiest church in Moncton.

You never know what you’ll find at the church example number 236:

I did a wedding on Saturday at the couple’s home and when I arrived I put my keys on the shelf. When I was leaving, someone said, ‘I knew they were your keys because you’re from Cape Breton!’

I’m reading a sermon from the 1890s by George MacDonald (who inspired Tolkien et al) where he says that Dante referred to angels as ‘the birds of God.’

I love a literary sermon. He’s not a fundamentalist, either. What a bright mind he had.

A friend of mine died this spring. He was a United Church minister in Cape Breton who lived to be 83. I went to see his widow a few weeks ago and she gave me this. If you know, you know what a treasure this is for clergy who always lose them.

Cam, this is Halo and she had the same surgery a few years ago (with a further complication) and she knows how hard it is. You’re a good dog!

This is why clergy often end up on stress leave.

I had a burial where I was standing at the grave waiting. I didn’t know anyone. Then, I looked at the grave beside me, and I saw the stone of an elder from my church whom I had loved, and who loved me. He was the best of us. I thought, ‘we never go alone’ and said thank you.

I found this book in the wild, and having read reviews over the years, I snatched it off the shelf and took it to the counter. I knew what I had!

Spent some time today at Reads in Moncton. The guy told me at one time there were a dozen stores, and this is the last one. All used books, all discounted, and most half off. I bought this one and a few others to browse over the summer but I easily could have bought a dozen more.

Beginning my vacation and I’m beyond tired. I think when you start to relax that’s when your body lets you know just how much stress it has been holding. Called back for a funeral on Saturday but at least I have the church of The Great
Canadian Bagel to start the day with the wooden cathedrals.

Last week I had this version of Shakshouka and I can’t stop thinking about it.

We had a tremendous celebration of the @unitedchurchcda.bsky.social ‘s 100th anniversary today in Moncton with over 450 in attendance, though one of the candle lighters tried to blow out the candle! 😂

We were setting up for the big service tomorrow when I noticed someone brought in a special flower bouquet for the front. 💐
