But when it comes to composing music for Pokémon, I’m *always* going to try and emulate some aspect of Shinji Miyazaki’s style

For the lead melody I took a “mallet forward” approach as heard on tracks like Miyazaki’s Route 29 arrangement (sans the iconic Miyazaki clarinet/flute combo)

Less obvious; the biggest inspiration for this track was Asuka Sakai’s brilliant rearrangement of ‘Katamari on the Rocks’ that she titled ‘Overture II’ for ‘We Love Katamari’

I’m a low-tier composer at best (especially with Jazz) but it was fun riding the inspiration on this.

While I didn’t leave the influence of Shinji Miyazaki entirely behind, for this year’s calendar jingle I decided to do a genre shift towards Jazz.

I specifically (obviously) tried to emulate the shuffles heard in Vince Guaraldi’s ‘Peanuts’ compositions.

Since the holidays are here, I’ll share that I had the pleasure of composing the music for our 2024 Pokémon Deluxe Holiday Calendar!

This is the biggest, most detailed commercial I’ve ever worked on; with over 150 different figures shown.

Years ago when we launched our Halo line, I wrote a series of Stop-Motion shorts with our figures that the incredible DGDX Animations brought to life.

Definitely one of the best projects I’ve lead.
