I was 15 in 1970, grew up during assassinations and riots and four dead in Ohio, hundreds of thousands of US military deaths in Vietnam etc.

Too much horror to go around. This seems much worse to me now. Comparison is complicated. But I never imagined a full-on madman as president of my country

I think it's a family thing? We said "oops" or "oh", not "ope" with a p on the end. I grew up in Columbus and my family is from southern Ohio. There were a lot of words that they stopped using once they lived here a while, like "warsh" (wash).
