One of my sources told me he wanted physical copies of my latest piece to pass out to folks in his community.

I created a layout. Printed more than a dozen copies. And shipped it off today.

This is more accessible for people without internet or lack digital literacy skills.

When I visited Sparta, residents told me they simply didn’t want to sell their land, which has been in their family for generations. Other feared the potential damage to their homes from the train.

Residents like Beverly Steele, whose grandfather x3 was a founding member of Royal, says it’s even more important to get listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Their hope is that the designation will lead to tougher restrictions on developers.

I won the Silver prize in the news & journalism category under human & civil rights for my reporting on Mayor Braxton and his fight to serve in rural Alabama.

I also won the Community Voice Award after receiving the most fan votes in my category.
