My favorite theory to learn about was the cognitive dissonance theory. This theory taught me about how we can consciously no want to do something and still do it anyways because of underlying patterns/causes. It helped me to notice multiple patterns in my life that weren’t useful.

Yes, I believe Agenda-Setting Theory is still relevant. Algorithms can prioritize certain content over others for a viewer. The influence shows up in the everyday world with different people’s social media outlines showing something different and affecting our perceptions of the world. #UTCommTheory

I have used Aggressive Accommodation when I was in a bar one day and a man who I denied in the past decided to point at me and have a group of his friends stare at me. I then went up to him and asked why he did that to me. He made up some sort of lie and the conversation was done. #UtCommTheory

An organization that could use a culture shift is Victoria’s Secret. Although they have included multiple body types in fashion shows, inside of their stores tend to be full of clothing items that aren’t body inclusive. I would recommend a change to accommodate different body types. #UTCommTheory

I can apply axiom 4 to my life. As an example, one of my coworkers has exhibited behaviors that make me question her social integrity, so our conversations are all work-related or small talk. This contrasts to my relationship with other coworkers that are more personal. #UTCommTheory

Growing up my family style was protective. I was to be seen and not heard. There was not much wiggle room for me as a child. An example of this is how my when I used to get in trouble for things my mom didn’t allow me to speak back to her is she scolded me or told me to do something. #UTCommTheory

Out of the 12 criteria to evaluate a theory, I am more drawn to the “Utility” of one. I like to know that a theory can be used to explain real-life phenomena and things that occur in the natural world. I also like to know they can be used to solve real world issues if applicable. #UTCommTheory

I am more drawn to the interpretative approach. I believe that everything has depth and different levels to it and that communication is not objective. It is completely subjective based on many many things. I cannot view communication as a simple stand-alone idea or concept.
