Wasted some hours debugging why colors were poor and flicking on C64C, while a breadbin model works with the same cable and monitor. I even ended up soldering and replacing the motherboard CT1 trimmer capacitor, thinking it was broken as tuning didn't […]

"Uncharted Passages" by #sunra. Solo piano stuff, mostly instrumental (some vocals by June Tyson on Enlightment -> Space Is The Place).

The album starts with careful ambient-style but then we get some Hammill-esque rough bashing too. Sound quality is […]

"The Avant-Garde" by #johncoltrane and #doncherry. Early 1960s, they are playing mostly #ornettecoleman compositions. Nothing too radical here, but it's a nice and tidy enjoyable album and playing.

Typical for 60s the mix has some heavy stereo panning […]

"Ship To Shore" #richardthompson. His latest album, I think, from 2024. Just love the music starting from the 1st song "Freeze", followed by darker "Fear Never Leaves You". Usually RT albums are a bit growers but this one hit the spot immediately. My […]

"The Jazz Composer's Orchestra" by #michaelmantler.

This is a nice blend of "orchestral music" and free jazz soloing. The orchestral textures are similar to his later work, but what really makes this album to stand out is that free jazz chaos. And what […]

"Sweet Talker" by #richardthompson. A soundtrack album. There's a proper catchy RT start with "Put Your Trust In Me" but then it drifts into instrumental zone and gets a bit dull. Out of 11 tracks, there's only a couple of proper songs. Ends with a ballad.

"Down In The Groove" by #bobdylan. One of the lowest-rated Dylan albums. Not so bad after all. Getting older one starts to dig everything about the 1980s...

There's "Death Is Not The End" later covered by #nickcave. Also two #roberthunter collaborations […]

"On Parole" by #Motörhead. This was intended to be their 1st album, but got shelved and released later around "Bomber" or so. It's a bit rough and more punk/garage pop than their usual rock and roll. But it's OK.

"Out To Lunch!" by #ericdolphy. A random pick today from 2nd hand bin from a local record store during a lunch walk.

Not sure how I managed to miss this album as a kid when I listened to "Weasels Ripped Off My Flesh" etc. on daily basis.

One of the […]

The 1999 holiday single by #rem. "Country Feedback" / "Ambulance Blues" with #neilyoung.

I've been searching this for years, so I didn't wait for holidays but opened and played it right away. One of the busiest single packagings I've seen, BTW.

Neil's […]

I got my first trivial machine code routine working. I want to write them in hex for better maintaiability/readability, so I had to code a custom loader - under 10 lines in #basic. It took me 40 years to realize that #commodore64 BASIC supports functions!

"Coastal Soundtrack" by #neilyoung.

From the same 2023 acoustic tour as "Before And After" LP. Both start with a great "I'm The Ocean". Good music. I also liked the versions of "Prime Of Life" and "Throw Your Hatred Down".

Puunkaato on aina jännää.

"Red Headed Stranger" by #willienelson.

A 1975 concept album about a fugitive on the run from the law after killing his wife and her lover? This is "outlaw" country music for sure. Great simple stuff, and also some hits of ragtime, gospel etc. A must have.

"Home Is Where You're Happy" by #willienelson.

A 1990s budget compilation with 16 tracks. A pretty terse release with a short biography & liner notes printed on the back cover. But the music is good and the sound/mastering is great on this old CD […]

"From The Trees" (2017) by #peterhammill.

That raw B&W sleeve with punk style graffiti suggests towards his raw early 1980s band style, even 1970s "Nadir". But the colorful back cover and the inner sleeve makes clear this "a calm" chill out album […]

Apparently recorded and produced within a day at Abbey Road by #johnleckie. So it's mainly Nick and acoustic guitar, with backing singers ensemble. There's heavy improvisational feel and plenty of that "stunt guitar" […]

Logged into the #amstrad #bbs tonight with my old PC1640. I must do this more often, as the hard disk was giving "not ready" during the boot and I had to do several power cycles / cold resets to get it to work, but once up it was OK.

"Talkin To The Trees" by #neilyoung.

Musically this has some familiar nostalgic moods from his #folkrock and #countryrock era, even some Bluenotes style of #blues. Lyrically there's 1980s echoes, and he's talking part of everyday politics: "If you're a […]
