Congress approved the first National DNA Day in April 2003 to celebrate both the completion of the Human Genome Project and the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA.

Activist Genealogy in the California Reparations Era: From Changing Families to Changing Communities, with Chris Lodgson Our next monthly program meeting will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025. The featured Guest Speaker will be Chris Lodgson, Lead Organizer and Activist with the California Reparations & Reparative Justice for American Freedmen (CJEC) organization. CJEC is the first and only grassroots state-wide organization of everyday people who are advocates, organizers, and mobilizers born to achieve Reparations and Reparative Justice for Black American Freedmen living in California. CJEC helped write and enact California’s first-in-the-nation Reparations Task Force, as well as California’s first-in-the-nation law requiring our state to recognize descendants of U.S Chattel Slavery as the unique and specific group of people we are. CJEC has held over 25 California Reparations community meetings, listening and information sessions, and canvassing events since 2021. CJEC was selected by the California Reparations Task Force as an official Community Anchor Organization in 2022. You can learn more about the organization here.
