i am so grateful for david lynch's work–how lucky were we? pretty damn, i think. he altered cinema and television forever. his art taught me how to dream and how to see. it gave me a language.

i hope that, wherever he is, he is at peace. i hope there's joy. and i hope there are, finally, robins.

rhoslc giving us "high body count hair," "you do need kerastase thermatique [sic]," and a delightful little napkin throw all in one episode? we're so spoiled.

and then, of course, there's the attempt to DM. always. actual human strangers will not DM you just to chat. it's not normal social etiquette. and i promise you an established name is definitely NOT going to do this.

the biggest tip-off, however, are always the replies. look at how this is written. "as a writer myself." again, realistically, would someone like coetzee do this? would he write like this? would he reach out to people he doesn't know ? it's giving "hello, fellow kids."

the account also shifts between first and third person. again, does this seem like how an actual person, let alone this specific author, would post? why would someone of his caliber need to post like this? he wouldn't and he doesn't.

in this case, the posts focus on one novel, disgrace, over and over. in this post, it's advertised using superfluous hashtags and a sketchy-looking link. most authors will likely not focus on a decades-old work. plus: does this SEEM like how coetzee would post? would he use "must read"? i think not.

because i keep seeing people following these sort of accounts: here are some simple ways to tell when a scammer is impersonating a famous author. let's use this j.m. coetzee account as an example:
