Originally curated around themes of colonialism, land, and the ethnographic gaze, this event is not a direct and critical act of solidarity. 100% of the income* received from the purchase of tickets will go directly to vetted relief efforts in the affected regions of the Philippines, southern Thailand, central Vietnam, and Western Indonesia. It’s not easy to disentangle the web of culture that weaved through the Southeast Asian region. Here, ways of living and beliefs are continuously displaced by and merged with new ones, escaping the simplicity of Western nation-state boundaries.
What's happening in Southeast Asia Since early November, in Thailand, Indonesia, and across the region, catastrophic flooding has claimed the lives of at least 1, 250 people, with numbers continuing to rise. Across eight southern provinces in Thailand, over 2.08 million people and more than 819,000 households remain affected. Meanwhile, the Philippines has been battered by a brutal one-two punch of Typhoon Kalmaegi and Super Typhoon Fung-Wong, flattening villages and displacing 1.4 million people. Central Vietnam is enduring some of its most historic and devastating floods to date, with over 100 lives lost, hundreds of thousands of homes submerged, and millions of dollars in damage to agriculture.

Aideen Farrell is a Dublin-based artist working in sculpture and installation. Her work responds to industrial landscapes and infrastructural ruins, focusing on processes of ruin, extraction, and transformation.

Format:
This is an experimental space and we will play with the format until the right fit emerges. Each week we will invite a guest speaker to tell us about their special interest. Following this there will be space for short 3-5 mins info dumps from anyone who wants to participate on the evening!

Mice Hell is an artist & illustrator from Dublin. She has made several Bat-themed shows for Dublin Digital Radio, usually broadcasting around Hallowe’en.

I forgot anteaters exist is a series of info-dump sessions allowing us to learn about the world through the special interests of others. Each session invites someone new to come and share their knowledge on a topic of their choosing.

Socials are some of our favourite times of the month!

We currently have member socials bi-weekly where members are invited to hang out in our garden and catch us, and other members up on what they’ve got going on. This last evening consisted of ghost stories and hot chocolates!

For this month’s Members Gallery Visit, we took a day trip down to EVA International. It was a lovely day, and we managed to get around the majority of the artwork on show - worth a visit!
