The FIRST DRAFT article written by Anne Lamott catapulted my drive to support teaching the essay and for my own writing. In essence, Lamott says your first draft is crap (my word). Her adjective was a far more "explicit" expletive.

1/1/2025: The year is starting off with a bang. I mean literally -- the shooting in the French Quarter tells us to find JOY, PEACE, SAFETY within. THE NATION MOURNS and HER PEOPLE ARE ANGRY. Condolences to all impacted (the victims, the families, those who saw it, and the city of New Orleans)
