I knew I couldn't have been the first to think of this one.

This reminds me of social media posts where they scramble all the letters in words or leave out all the vowels to show that your brain can still read the corrupted text... which is true for good readers, but is likely something you develop _after_ you have the fundamentals. 3-cueing seems similar.

Good thing they made trades for multiple relievers at the deadline. 🙄

All these years it never occurred to me that that funny looking arrow was supposed to be a paper airplane. I guess it makes sense. 😅

This was the first ska song I loved, and I recently got my 12-year-old listening to it. youtu.be/gmOmAuhAQbE?...

Reel Big Fish still makes me happy. They deserved more than fifteen minutes of fame, but I love that they were self aware enough to write this one: g.co/kgs/ZyyHtfL

As I understand it, the evolution went something like Margaret->Margie->Maggie->Mag->Meg->Peg

Not so different from Robert to Bob or William to Bill.

That makes sense. Those areas would tend to be more cosmopolitan and left-leaning than, say, Fort Myers or Daytona Beach. (Not that I think you'd have had a bad time in those places). I think the caricatures these days are probably from places like The Villages, which is like an alternate universe.

Interesting observations! Thanks for sharing. Of course, the US is a large country, and different regions, as well as different socioeconomic classes within regions, have entirely different ethos. The urban/rural divide is significant as well. I'm curious where you spent your time here.

This just triggered a song lyric in my head that I'll bet you remember:

...and that's how I got to go to the prom with Geena Davis. But you probably already read about that in People...

Coincidentally, that is the approximate length of the song "Tweezer" by Phish.
