Good point, of course transmission congestion and connection times are an issue. And new renewables are more decentral/local, while transmission is interregional.

But from a kitchen window a set of pylons and cables and a wind farm are both energy infrastructure.

Currently, network tariffs are encouraging consumption where there is hardly any renewable energy generation. If you want to make better use of existing networks, this is a misguided incentive.

But other factors also play a role: for example, it is in the nature of things that electricity in sparsely populated has to be transported further than in the city. This also contributes to higher costs.

Why tackle the distribution of network tariffs now?
Currently, the costs for wind energy connection and possible congestion measures are passed on directly to customers of the DSO concerned.
Especially in the north and east, the grid charges are much higher this way.

Even the average values per federal state differ greatly: In Brandenburg, the network charges are around 28% higher at 8.95 Ct/kWh than in Bavaria (6.95 Ct/kWh).

Significant deviations can be seen, for example, in the network charges. There are 865 distribution system operators with their own tariffs in 2022. These range from 3.48 Ct/kWh to 20.15 Ct/kWh.

Household electricity prices in Germany were 36,06 Ct/kWh in 2022. The individual elements are
13,54 Ct/kWh: Procurement, sales and revenue
8,12 Ct/kWh: Network tariffs
14,40 Ct/kWh: Taxes and levies
However, these are average values…

Germany is one of the countries with the highest household electricity prices in Europe when all taxes and charges are included. In 2020 and the first quarter of 2021, it topped the list of 27 EU countries.
