Day 20
November 28, 2025 at 12:46 AM
Now, I can reason out that this says "Big Peak", but that was certainly not my initial thought, lol

Don't forget to clean up!
October 27, 2025 at 8:00 AM
And finally, I package it all up, using a food saver type thing. These are ~200g packages, and most of them are headed to the freezer, while I slowly work through one.

Given the amount of fat in these (butter, mostly) these aren't shelf stable and should be stored cold.

They'll come out very dry, so a thing I like to do, is to let them air cool inside the dehydrator, with a tea towel covering the opening for a few hours. This lets the surface reabsorb some ambient moisture.
October 27, 2025 at 8:00 AM
Lay the pieces out on the dehydrator racks. You don't need to leave as much space as I did, but I think it does help for airflow. This step is possible to do in an oven, but you will need grid racks and a pan at the bottom to catch drips.

I did the jerky making and took the pictures, but forgot until now to make the rest of the thread. So, from marination to packing, here we go.

Remove the beef and whatever amount of sauce comes with it from the bags. Put the bags aside, you can clean them for reuse later.
October 27, 2025 at 8:00 AM
- remove from heat, then split the meat into two equal portions and put into two large ziplock bags
- split the sauce as equally as possible (you can eyeball it) between the bags
-remove as much air from the bags as possible
-knead the contents until you're assured total coverage
October 25, 2025 at 10:12 AM
Next, prepare the marinade, I use Shan brand sauce mix

Now, since you're not making actual butter chicken with this, you can disregard most of the instructions, instead do the following
October 25, 2025 at 10:12 AM
Take a tenderizing mallet, and really work out your frustrations on the meat, until each piece is between 25-40% wider, and thinner on the whole. Ear protection is recommended, even if it's just Bluetooth headphones with a podcast or music to block out the loud whacking sound
October 25, 2025 at 10:12 AM
As an optional step, I load them into the dehydrator at 100F (~38C) for 2 hours, simply to dry it out enough that I don't need to use plastic wrap for the tenderization stage (less setup for splash guarding)

Jerky make thread!

I'll be documenting my process for Butter Chicken flavour beef jerky
This is 2.06 kg of thick sliced eye of round, with most of the fat trimmed off (seen in upper right)

Happy thanksgiving, from Southern Ontario
October 13, 2025 at 8:03 PM
two weeks ago I hooked up my old snes and chrono trigger to the elgato. It worked, but the battery had run down long ago and my saves were gone. To run a practical test of it, I made a quick save to check on in a week

as stated it's been two, it's fine, and We'll be adding it to the roster soon

Latest small batch jerky experiment, 2nd try at butter chicken sauce marinade

It seems to be a success

Will try the exact methods again soon to make sure, before committing the method to paper
September 26, 2025 at 11:18 PM
a preview, if you will, with an old version of the flame
September 22, 2025 at 3:49 AM
Another small batch of jerky done.

Lamb Vindaloo again, this time with a homemade spice paste blend. Taste is much better than the store bought one, largely because I could adjust the heat more to my liking.

A bit dry, but I’ve come to expect that with this.

9/10 will repeat.

Accidentally burned out the Magic Bullet in the process of the final step, but We now have our homemade vindaloo paste for jerky making soon
August 3, 2025 at 7:52 PM
So now we have some pretty nice citrine, just waiting to be used
July 11, 2025 at 7:52 PM
Went to the rock shop in town, they had bags of dirty/sticky citrine that they couldn’t figure out how to clean

Bought a bag, tried out some glass stovetop cleaning liquid we have, and after a couple washes all that’s left is a bit of dirt in crevices that can be scrubbed out

Return of #RockADay Day 19
Bloodstone

Remarkably fun to work with. I am reminded that I should try to take these videos in a darker room, however. You can almost actually see my face, lol.

#RockADay Day 18
Green Flower Agate (2nd)

I like this one a lot better than the first attempt, though I did have to re grind the top away from being just flat. The light didn't play on it very well, so I gave it a very slight dome, which looks much better.

#RockADay Day 17
Fire Quartz

This find wasn't even on purpose, I was sampling for a sunset lesbian flag I'm putting together (among a couple other flags I have the colours for), and this was a remarkably lovely piece in it's own right, so I had to make it as it's own thing.

#RockADay Day 16
Mookaite

One of the types of jasper out there, it's difficult to shape, but when you get it to where you want it, it's wonderful to finish
