beauuuuutiful shots though. which is how i feel for most japanese films from the 90s. too bad i hate most of their plots & motifs!

it made me remember why japanese films are so hit or miss for me — i hate the “submissive woman” archetype, i hate the simplistic (and so un self aware) morality, i hate the obsession with purity & innocence, i hate the wooden acting. i want a depraved film to lavish in its depravity not condemn it!

i love films about bdsm and sex work and depravity, i love slow long shots and 90s tokyo cityscapes and hotel rooms and naked women, so this film started like a gentle head massage that quickly ended up becoming a lukewarm hair wash.

i find i dont like films anymore when i’m bogged down by watching films for Films’ Sake as it’s never really been like that for me. cinema like music like literature has always been a medium to reach something greater for me. i’m trying to triangulate the “greater” but i think it’s adjacent to sex
