If two hypothetical individuals make $176,000 per year and $5,176,000 per year (over their entire career), they end up paying the same amount in SS tax and earning the same benefit.

So someone should pay in more than they are able to take out in benefits? That makes no sense.

The benefit is also capped. Both individuals in the example make the same benefit. If you raise the cap you must raise the benefit.
