I've had a "normal" grip until I got ipad. The apple pencil is too big, round, and slippery to be comfortably held so I switched to the same grip you have.
Since then I do it with all writing supplies.

Oils are actually all I've wished acrylics would be and at the same time they've introduced a new set of difficulties.
I definitely enjoy the prolonged drying time tho.
