Most special day on island of Hiddensee in the Baltic yesterday. I have never seen so much Rhinanthus (serotina) anywhere. Carpets of yellow across the pastures. Plus bedstraw broomrape, Orobanche caryophyllacea.

Come work in our unique long-term grassland priority effect experiment, POEM, in the beautiful Lüneburg Heathland. PhD position available in my lab to start ASAP to see if sowing forbs or legumes early continues to affect root distribution.

Who remembers mixed tapes? What was on your favourite mixed tape ever? Long live the 80s! In retrospect it was paradise, people talked to each other, Trump was where he should be, selling real estate. We had way more biodiversity....

Happy spring! These storks at least have not had to listen to Vance say the USA must have Greenland, so as to fend off the Russian danger. Said from Putin's lap, giving Russia just what it wanted. Are we finally living in a Samuel Beckett play?

Wo druckt dein Schu? #Bundestagswahl

With Josep Settele, Simone Schneider, Eckart Jedicke and Simon Keelan. It was a big success and we will be shortly publishing key outcomes and recommendations for policy and governance. «Grünland kann was« is our motto. Species rich grasslands are a key solution to quite a few current problems.

Our Grassworks project, on what works in grassland restoration in Germany, just had its final event in Berlin. With the heads of Landcare Germany (DVL) and the Federal Farmers Association and co discussing how we can have more #biodiversity and agriculture. Chaired by the superb @tanjabusse.

Many different vegetation forms are called Cerrado within the larger savanna biome in Brazil. Sadly, even though the pasture with GMO African grass is eroded, the intensively used land can also be called Cerrado by some farmers and landowners, I just learnt on my first ever visit to the Cerrado.

Just visited the Chapada dos Veiadeiros NP, that has some of the most beautiful and diverse savanna (cerrado). School kids in Brazil learn only that savanna has crooked trees and very bad soils. Nothing about it's mind blowing diversity and beauty. This place is a jewel.
