You're right to be furious about this. The cost comparison between new BEBs and 20-25 yr old trolleybuses is meaningless. On a Total Cost of Ownership basis, trolleybuses often beat BEBs, especially on the heavier duty lines. Attached is a slide from ebusplan. 1/4 @chittimarco.bsky.social

Budapest's tender for up to 160 trolleybuses has been won by a consortium of Yutong and Ikarus. The plan is to double the size of the system by 2030.
The initial order will be for 16 standard and 24 articulated vehicles.📷Yutong

Opening of the 8km trolleybus route from Pescara to Montesilvano in Italy is close, thanks to final approval from the safety authority. Pre-service testing begins soon with hope of public service in August.

Did you know that many studies show that trolleybuses with In Motion Charging have somewhat lower operating costs than BEBs? Attached is a photo of a slide at the recent Trolley:Motion conference. The right hand column is the battery-trolleybus vs 5 columns of BEB results.
