Perhaps check out other artist's work for reference on this topic? Takemoto Arashi's work includes bulky characters that retains the fluffiness of their fur. Though you do such a great job with your character designs. I'm sure you'll find a good balance that works for you.

Second half of Part 2. This was quite a long and very ambitious project but also satisfying. From here on, however, I'll make shorter animations.
