When someone asks you how you're feeling, and you think "hey, maybe they really care", so you start telling them and their eyes glaze over and they start telling you what their cat did yesterday- Yeah, that. But I have met one person who once asked me the question, and I, being jaded from the experience, said Oh I am fine thanks. And she said "but I know you're not", and I felt the floodgates open. She began crying, then told me things that you don't tell, and it made me well.

~ A second chance ~ Somewhere in great Andromeda’s arm, little Donelda comes to herself at the sound of trickling water. In the stream’s iridescence, something bobs- circle-twirls in the undertow of an eddy. On this day, the water is warm, and her thin fingers feel no change as she scoops up the doll. Raggedy Ann has made it through. Together, they’ll be just fine.

On a roaming evening in a town called Twelve, the houses were all of glass. One could see, as one passed, the cold and the warm hearths, the worshippings, the pointing fingers. The quick caresses or the coldness of turned backs and folded arms. The street of shops was all dull metal, windowless with risings of sooty smoke . I heard the hiss of pavement rain, and stopped for a slowly train. On a lime-lit billboard in a field of wild rice, broad brush strokes said SEVEN, a devil’s tail pointing straight ahead.

In this morning’s dream, she handed me an egg cup. In it were her wedding rings, her earrings, and a gold chain strung through a cross. As I held it, questioning, she folded my hand over it, saying “Bury these beyond time. Bring me the new.” I had not seen her for many years and, having no track of her life, felt confused and of small use to her. Sensing this, she pushed back my closed hand and said “You will know.”

Vivid. I walked within a darkened greenhouse made over into bedrooms. In one, a small girl sat. She had a dirty nightgown, no lashes, and the skin of her face was flaking. “She needs care”, I said, and picked her up. Arms and baleful faces went to stop me, but I strode on in the cold cold hall. Up ahead, the floor was mobbed with stringless marionettes. A disembodied voice cried “Don’t step on the people”. It was then I knew we would be free.

~Fortress~ #poetry
The sun was in beams through the travelling trees, like a ruby- a lasering strobe, as I did a drive in convertible breeze, well abreast of the darkening road. And “Houses of cloud” (did I say, out aloud?) in the lamps of the settling sun, for I pictured a fortress- a bastion endowed with the flags from the battles it won. In a panoply breeze over netherworld seas, its colours flew proudly and brave, and its adamant towers with secretive keys rose in battlements out of the wave. And none could assail it, and naught but a ghost could appear in its echoing halls, or master in battle that heavenly host by its buttress of resolute walls.
