TROUBLE EVERY DAY: The result of Denis's failed project with Assayas and Egoyan about three foreign women in Paris (that resulted in IRMA VEP), her pivot to horror results in one of the most striking and unsettling films of New French Extremity. A vampire film without vampires.

I'm halfway through Petzold's filmography (Afire/Transit/ Undine/Phoenix/The State I Am In watched so far) and I'm thinking he might be one of the most "underrated" (hate the word) contemporary filmmakers. Maybe I'm blind/ignorant but I haven't seen much discussion for him in online circles!?!

AT BERKELEY: surely has to be one of the greatest docs of all time. Don’t be wary of its four hour runtime, Wiseman will keep you hooked all the way through.

A highly moving and effective hit piece on school administrations and pathetic bureaucracy, even more relevant twelve years on.

Went to a rewatch Miike's Audition yesterday on a beautiful 35mm print! Honestly, the first half is so enthralling and strangely Hitchcockian (maybe that's just me). Second half WAS the "movie", but didn't capture me as much but was great regardless (unrelated but I also feel the same about Vox Lux)

I watched the (amazing) Tampopo yesterday for the first time (on a beautiful 35mm print!!). a hilarious, beautiful, rich plot intertwined with confoundingly fun subplots (sprinkled with bits of dark humour) brought together by some great playful filmmaking!!
