alpine strawberry in a hydroponic unit. lovely green leaves and one white flower with five petals and a yellow center. Tom Hat mini tomato plant in a hydroponic unit. green leaves, yellow flowers, and three little green tomato babies. genovese basil in a hydroponic unit. my hand holds one big leaf to show size. the leaf is almost as big as my hand, but i do actually have small hands. still, the leaf is big!

a brown aquarium snail with one small tuft of green algae growing up from the shell. i think it looks like a fluffy ostrich feather standing straight up on a fancy hat. a get what you get farmers market produce box laid out on my kitchen counter. a bag of cut kale leaves that are purple and green, three big heads of bok choy, a head of lettuce, a bunch of green onions, and 3 lemons. luckily, i really really love bok choy! a purple flower standing out from a green groundcover background. the flower has six long and narrow petals. it is a native bulb in my area and was eaten by native americans here. i really really love native plants. a cluster of forget me nots in full bloom. the flowers are tiny and blue. i just think forget me nots are so cute, and blue is an unusual color in a garden.

How it started, and how it's going... the evolution of a planted shrimp tank.
5 gallon aquarium with a few pieces of wood, rocks, sparse plants, and black sand. long led light clipped to the top right edge. the same 5 gallon aquarium 2 years later. the wood pieces and rocks are the same, but the plants are significantly bigger and thicker. a few new plants have been added, and orange sunkist neocaridina shrimp have been added. a new, shorter, upgraded led light is clipped to the left side now, and the old light was removed. the black sand is thicker on the left side now because I added some special plant substrate to that side under the sand. The most notable difference is the thick and lush plants that fill the tank space.
