Let me speak from experience about this. NEVER EVER feel guilty about refusing to work on your days off. The level of burnout I dealt with because I bought into the whole "Hard work will pay off" scam affects me to this day. YOU always come first and foremost.

I laugh at those people.
I'll be 53 on Friday, no kids, and very much single. Sometimes it's rough not having someone to be with, but OTOH, I don't have to worry about losing half of my stuff, can go and do whatever I want, whenever I want and enjoy my hobbies without issue. They're just jealous.

Over the years, my position has somewhat changed.
Unless you can 100%, beyond any doubt whatsoever prove a person in a death penalty case did it, the sentence should be life without the possibility of parole.
Too many people on Death Row have been released thanks to the Innocence Project.
