Retired from Met Office, railway photographer (amongst other things). Crystal Palace fan for many years, through thick and thin - mainly thin.
Great, I will be at Cholsey Station to greet it at 2358!
When I was working at Heathrow in the 70s, there was always a flight plan similar to this. He gets around does Santa!

Did you know that this is an urban myth? See www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrq2... and others

I can see them from here in South Oxfordshire, Looks like they're over the coast.

I was always impressed by the sense of real power coming from a class 87 going out with 12 on, when stood beside it.

Isn't this one of the stretches that the anti HS2 brigade said could be quadrupled?

Ahh, ssw. I remember drawing up charts at 10mb to 1mb back in the early 80s, then digitising them. I'm pretty sure we didn't forecast ssw's happening though, but I might be wrong. Sid Clough was in charge of the Stratospheric Group then.

Looks good to me, virtually everything in it is railway related.

And then the wind blows them back again.

I wonder if any of these have ever looked at the rules of flying the union flag? See www.flaginstitute.org/wp/uk-flags/... - no lampposts mentioned. And I've seen where one national flag is flown over another's - wars have been declared over this!

I should have said this is the Met Office in Bracknell!

Disc drives similar to these - Cyber 205 equipment being 'removed' in 1991. They had to be destroyed for tax reasons, or so I was told. The man is a CDC engineer.

Well done!

You're not wrong (my first Class 86)

I wonder how those who claim train driving is easy would cope with this. I know I'm impressed with train drivers and how they cope.

45, that's younger than my son and my older daughter! Many happy returns.

Here in the desert of South Oxfordshire we just had a big shower - some thunder and lightning, but a maximum rate of 78mm/hour. That's a violent shower in this country. I don't think I've see one this heavy since my days at Kew Observatory in the late 60s.

Class 50. D434 was one of the first locos I photographed at Chester Station (see avatar and name!). Class 73 and 33 close second - plenty of photos at Clapham Junction in the 60s.

First one, no second, no third one. Bah, they're all good! Like them all.

I can remember thinking that the Beatles' song "I wanna be your man" was better than the Rolling Stones' version. I never made that mistake again. And that was years before the internet!

It is a bit good... well very good...um sensational. I liked Yes even though they were a bit past my time (the 60s, after 64)

My son is 6ft 2in. I'm 5ft 7in. Think yourself lucky!

Why haven't I heard of the Avalanches - ahh, far too modern for me. Not much good music after 1970 (now running for cover -well waking a bit faster!).
Thanks for the alt text which explained it too me.
