Reading W.E.B Du Bois’ Souls of Black Folk in class today, and I think it would really be fascinating to talk about the chapter ‘Of the Sorrow Songs’ in relation to Sinners, which has a scene that I think fits nicely in conversation with the deeply spiritual ideas Du Bois’ is making throughout.
