No, I imagine that again it comes down to a matter of establishing precedents and principles. Just like nobody is going to be prevented from committing suicide by outlawing it, but by creating those laws, society says what its values are.

I'm going with evolutionary psychology to justify it. Almost all violent sexual assaults are committed by men. Women are likely hard-wired to be uncomfortable being in intimate spaces with men. That natural feeling should be honored.

I'm disappointed. A true alternative that really wanted to promote dialogue above all else would add features like verified identity and more powerful tools for users to curate who they interact with. (Instead, even blocking someone here is harder...)
