Recently retired theologian. Interested in science fiction and fantasy. Concerned about ecology and climate change. Supporter of National Parks and NASA. Worried about the welfare of the poor and other marginalized people. I take Jesus seriously.
She's not wrong about why some people voted for him. They want permission to insult whomever they want to insult, but especially women. The problem isn't just Trump. It is also many of his voters.

Socialism: Those policies Republicans don't like, especially those that help the poor and other marginalized people.

I've no idea why anyone would vote with Republicans on this because it usually means anything Democrats support. I guess it's part of the internal debate in the Democratic party. Many don't want to be called socialists. But it won't matter. Republicans will call them socialists anyway.

What do you think Republicans mean by "socialism?" Sometimes they seem to equate it with communism, though I don't know what they mean there either. Other times they seem to mean any sort of service provided by the government other than police and military.

Hum. Is Trump actually losing? Because forcing poor people to do more paperwork is perfectly in character. Increase regulation on the poor. Decrease regulation on the rich. Whose pressure did he bow to? It certainly isn't because he changed his mind.

Each and every one of them should have followed up with her question and it should be the only question they ask until there is an apology.

Yep. Republicans would say he's a Marxist. Of course he was dead something like 1500 years before Marx was born.

Trump approves. He'd like to do the same. He hates reporters even though he would have remained a reality TV personality without them.

It should be a complete prohibition of owning stocks of any kind while serving in the United States government. It isn't just in-sider trading, it is making decisions about stocks you already own.

John Chrysotom once told the Imperial court: "The gold bit on your horse, the gold circlet on your wrist, the gilding on your shoes proves you are robbing the orphan and starving the widow . . . How many tears did it take to build your mansion . . . How many laborers were deprived of their wages?"

And his enablers contend that it isn't corruption since he does it in public.

Unfortunately, it has been a lifetime for most of us.

My bias is that all billionaires are thieves who abuse their subordinates, and they consider everyone subordinates. They all seem to think that money is an aphrodisiac and gives them permission whether it has been granted or not. Age doesn't matter. I try to tell myself they can't all be like that.

His behavior always makes me wonder how anyone could ever vote for this disgusting excuse for a human being. He doesn't seem to be able to talk to anyone, but especially women, without insults.

AI is designed to concentrate wealth and power in the hands of a few Techlords. Thinking otherwise will just make it easier for them to do so.

I'm sure they weren't "real" Christian churches. A "real" church wouldn't harbor any illegals, I mean, just because Leviticus tells us to love immigrants and Jesus told us that nations would be judged by whether or not we welcome immigrants, but "real" churches don't care about any woke crap.

I wouldn't be surprised, but aren't there other sources to which researchers could compare to identity these changes? Granted, it would take a real journalist, but don't we still have a few?
November 18, 2025 at 10:53 PM
Probably without the ACA regulations on pre-existing conditions, preventive care, etc.
November 18, 2025 at 10:44 PM
There you are using that word again. No one without an advanced education knows what an emolument is, so how do they know Trump has been taking advantage of their ignorance since 2017? Of course, he doesn't know what the word means either.
November 18, 2025 at 2:03 PM
He abuses reporters constantly yet they continue to give him free airtime. They rarely even defend themselves, much less each other. I know that many victims of abuse behave this way, but I'm still flabbergasted.

You think the water might be from the Ganges? Many people think the river is holy.
November 17, 2025 at 11:57 PM
I realize people didn't know, but it wasn't because no one was saying anything about it. I knew it exactly what was in Project 2025 long before I read any of it because it was being described by reputable people at least a year before the election. Blame whoever you want, but I blame its authors.

JD and Donald lie ALL THE TIME. But I'm sure I'm an imbecilic moron.
November 17, 2025 at 12:15 AM
Thanks. I'm a theologian. I spend way too much time thinking about these things.

For me, election has always been about what you were elected for. Abraham was elected to be a light to the nations, not to murder the innocent. Or, to return to Paul, we are predestined to be the image of Christ, that is, to do what Jesus would do in the same situation as close as we are able.
