“No regrets.” Johnny agreed with a blindly beautiful smile full of more love than he could ever have hoped for. “Not anymore.”
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
“Every word.” Ghost replied quickly, as if he would ever take it back. Not now that he had Johnny, now that he had everything he so desperately revered for so long. “No more regrets.”
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
It was silent as the door shut for only a moment, “Did you mean it?” Soap asked, meeting Ghost’s eyes for only a moment before staring at the wall next to Ghost’s head.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Gaz sighed heavily, and nodded. Then a small secret grin. “I’ll go tell the captain you’re both awake. He’ll want to talk to you guys.” He left quickly, but not without another smile to the both of them.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
“But we did.” Soap spoke up, grabbing at his friend’s shoulder. “You weren’t too late, and you saved us.”
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
“It was a miracle nothing collapsed or shifted while we dug you out.” He admitted, and Ghost noticed then how scared Gaz’s eyes were. “You two barely made it.”
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Gaz spoke, though Ghost struggled to tear himself from Johnny. “We picked up your com device a couple of times, and tracked it back to the demo site. After a lot of digging, we found you two on the brink of death.”
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
“How?” His voice was rough when he spoke, eyes glued to Soap. He looked rough, eyes baggy and paler than he had ever seen. But he was *alive*. They both were.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
As he sat up, he noticed the figure in the bed across from him, facing away and chatting softly with Gaz.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
He reached down, still expecting to find Johnny there, but his hands found nothing but empty space and a threaded blanket.

Glancing around for the first time, he realized he was in a hospital bed, wrapped in blankets and IVs.

Ghost chuckled, and leaned to kiss him on the forehead. “I promise.”

It was light when Ghost awoke, incessant beeping syncing with the pounding in his skull.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
“I love you too.” The words came slowly, muddled and exhausted. “And I’ll find you. Wherever we end up, in Heaven or another life, I’ll find you.” A small laugh. “Maybe you’ll confess your love sooner, next time.”
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
“I love you.” Ghost muttered, half asleep and falling quickly. His fingers slowed, scrapping less and less with each pass.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Eventually, they pulled apart, both drowsy and weak. Soap curled up, head on Ghost’s lap, and Ghost threaded his fingers through Johnny’s hair, slightly combing his fingers through.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Lips became salty with tears, both unaware they were crying. Caring fingers wiped them away from Ghost’s face, and he couldn’t help the shaking of silent sobs between breaths as they kissed.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Johnny was as perfect as he always imagined, always hoped he would find out. Even through chapped cracked lips and suffocation, it was one of the best moments Ghost thought he had ever had.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Their lips met, dusty and bloody. Moving slowly, so slowly, they fell between each other, learning the shape and feel of the othet. Ghost forced the fog from his mind; making himself present for every moment he dreamed of.
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
“Longer than you can imagine. You’ve held my heart in your hands for so long, it’s become yours.” He was inches away from Ghost now, sharing the same breath. “You’ve loved me just by holding onto it.”
February 6, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Ghost didn’t know if it was the beginnings of the lack of oxygen, or his own nervousness, but his short hurried breath surely gave him away as he leaned forward. “Would you have wanted this? Me?”
