It's a hard day. Tomorrow will be too. If you can't be there to make your friends dinner, can you check on them and remind them you care?

Have you been able to care for yourself by being creative, moving your body, meditating, or socializing today or yesterday? Are any of those something we can find a way to add in? World Mental Health Day, 2023 by Ella Shorthouse I've been pulling at the bits of yarn that comprise my crocheted brain all dyed uniform by my cerebral fluid and trauma I can't discern which are detritus of kyriarchy which are woven in from medications, therapies, or meditations which are my own synapses, my home-grown neural pathways I can't discern whether my fidgeting just frays the tired yarn or nudges me toward an unseen future whether that future is still or frantic whether I could stop if I wanted to I wonder if this is an internal dermatrichtillomania which strands of thought are load-bearing what happens when these threads become too frayed I wonder whether I could throw all these heirloom stitches and clumsy knots in a cosmic washing machine set to "delicates" with Tide free & clear and set it out to dry for a fresh start

ON PRETENDING TO BE WELL by Ella Shorthouse an arborist said this tree shattered because it did not compartmentalize its decay i said to my body please do not compartmentalize your decay this request is not because i want to shatter but because if there is rot, i want to turn all my limbs in toward it if there is rot let me send all my blood and sinew there so all of me will witness all of the damage if i shatter let it be from the weight of embrace i want even my brokeness to be held if i fall completely apart it will only be because i loved myself equally completely, even my decay
