On August 18, the weather had calmed & Beattie's team continued their work. They cleared off the coffin & removed the lid. The inside was filled with a block of ice. Using heated water, they slowly thawed the ice, the body inside gradually coming into view… #FranklinExpedition #JohnTorrington

May 19 was the 179th anniversary of the Franklin Expedition setting sail from Greenhithe, England. As per usual, I made a cake in honor of the occasion! It's blueberry cake with blueberry icing (I really love blueberry lol) Happy (belated) Greenhithe Day/Franklin Day!

Today, December 10, is the 197th anniversary of John Torrington's baptism! (And if you don't know who that is, you can check out all my past ramblings/research about him here: laurentriolawrites.wordpress.com/2020/01/02/t... --long story short, he was the first fatality of the Franklin Expedition)
