Do the authors claim that the RNA is sensed directly by cGAS and induced catalytic activity or is cGAS activation an indirect effect?

The ER membrane bound DNAse TREX1 prevents your own DNA from becoming viral mimicry. TREX1 can also move around in the cell, but it was unclear how. With collaborators @tudresden.bsky.social we identified TREX1 as a substrate for the intramembrane protease SPP.
