In 1835, my 4x Great Grandfather swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States and renounced all allegiances and fidelities to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty,” and was made a citizen. The allegiance was to the *Constitution,* not to any person. No Kings!
