Utter disaster trying to make Moravian spice cookies using online recipes. Finally found a pdf of the trusty Betty Crocker New Picture Cookbook of my childhood, and there was the much simpler recipe I remember. The nostalgia hit hard.

Read this with some first-graders today. One little girl got very excited because she recognized mendhi and the traditional treats mentioned in the book. Actually, they were all pretty excited even if they had never heard of Diwali.
