- the one guy maintaining this pice of software is hostile against open source contributions to „his“ project
- he has too many side projects which are all half baked and none are actually really working
- he has built a personal „cult“ around himself and a core supporter group behind him

To summarise it briefly:
- very poor handling of security vulnerabilities
- responsible disclosure is practically impossible
- the code quality is very poor in general (I know people who stopped looking into this project since they had a terrible experience trying to disclose stuff)

Please don’t use pixelfed, that’s a security nightmare… but for everything else - sure go ahead those are very great options!
