I did go through depression - in many ways because I couldn't grasp _why_ we were going through this apparent stupidity.
Some excellent books (including yours) have helped me gain a better understanding and clearer perspective.

It's incredibly frustrating to hear every news item regarding climate end with "but it's hoped that due to xyz that everything will be fine."

It's hard to imagine a species reaches a level of intelligence and doesn't embark on huge overshoot and/or change its environment/ society massively.
It seems like a great barrier.
Species smarter than us may realise, but evolution has to take all through this dangerous level of intellect?

But we changed our environment and our society so much, and far too quickly, that our behaviours don't align anymore and become self-destructive.

She means it is impossible to reach without ending neoliberalism and upsetting the ultra rich.
With the threat of the nazis, the cost didn't matter. An existential threat had to be defeated whatever the cost.
Now, with neoliberalism, the cost does matter. It's too expensive to save ourselves.

Boris just says whatever fits his own agenda. Whatever benefits him. Throughout his career, he supported UK membership of the EU. He changes because it suits him. People like him have no principles or beliefs whatsoever. Beyond their own gain, that is.

It's difficult to comprehend, but our society is set up that way. If you're a risk-taking, spoilt narcissist, you're more likely to become hugely rich.
If you have no morals, it's easier to maintain power.
If you control the media, it is easy to control how simple-minded people think.

This just shows all the unknowns that exist when there is widescale change. It's never that easy to predict the future.

If they were accidental, surely you would quickly move to say so and distance yourself from nazism at a time when people think that's exactly what you are.
