And what is good, Phaedrus,
And what is not good -
Need we ask anyone to tell us these things?

Australian, stoic (except when revved up...), often hopeful.
It's not weird.
It's what schoolyard bullies do, beat up their smaller and weaker "friends", while steering clear of anyone that actually poses a threat.

I guess Alfred couldn't have foreseen the depths of pathetic wretchedness that so many people would stoop to.
I couldn't. Could you?
Machado looks pathetic, Trump as you'd expect.
NP committee has blown its credibility in a way befitting it's founder who after all invented dynamite

Another great decision by Costello, along with scrapping of dental care for poor ppl.
Still, he had to get money from somewhere to fund all that middle class welfare and subsidise people's freedom of choice so they could send their kiddywinks to private schools and buy private health insurance...

High undecided count. Ripe for persuasion via some full-on astroturfing.

🙄
Wonder what the recommendations were, but not so much as to actually read it ...

M Grattan:
"In pre-xmas poll, 48% for a RC. Only 17% opposed, with 34% unsure/neutral."
Typical of many media types, Grattan also claims to know that calling a RC is "right". On what basis it's never said.
So many RCs, so many recommendations, so few results.

View from The Hill: Albanese’s backflip on royal commission is a humiliating own goal
The prime minister has finally reached the right decision. But it’s important to scrutinise the reasons he’d opposed a royal commission in the first place.

"Downing Street is in talks with European allies about deploying a military force to Greenland that would guard the Arctic for Donald Trump..."
*For* Donald Trump?

"... has the highest Travel Advisory level – Level 4: Do Not Travel – due to severe risks to Americans, including wrongful detention, torture in detention, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, crime, civil unrest, and poor health infrastructure."

We talking Venezuela or US?

Yeah, desperation. Just wish there was greater awareness of Russia's meat grinder tactics and general disregard for life so as to make the opportunity totally unpalatable.

And Mexico. And all those Carribbean nations (I mean, they're in the gulf of America). Looks like you can add history to Steven's repertoire of incapacities.

That'd be his strong instinct for self preservation at work

Signed. Thanks for providing this opportunity to affirm my belief in the rights of Jewish and other people to practice their Faith free of persecution, even while being opposed to Israel's actions in Gaza.

I came across Susan on this Oxford debate on YouTube and was struck by the theme of indigeneity.

Sadly it seems to be characteristic of conservatives, when it comes to greater good or national interest issues, to take a nakedly partisan stance. Never mind the consequences if there's political point to be scored. His OTT outbursts demonstrate unfitness for leadership.

Josh is angry (understandable at a personal level), but unhinged. What does he want? What would Albo, Burke & Wong have to do to satisfy Josh short of resigning? And RE hate speech, given Josh's support of weakening s 18c, isn't he just a hypocrite? (Remember Brandis' "right to be a bigot" comment)

Being from 🇦🇺, I can say that I avoid the "beach", a vast white glaring expanse, exposed to intense UV without reprieve, and with temperatures often above 35 DegC, from which the only escape is the water which is frequented by irukandji (in warmer waters) and sharks.

I thought the Russian film Leviathan (2014) was a powerful but bleak look at the seeping hopelessness that you mention. An individual against the corrupt institutions of the church, state and judiciary, it didn't end well. Amazed that it was actually made, wouldn't be possible now...
