"we really want the same things you want, it's just that we're compelled by some strange curse to fight you every step of the way whenever you try to replace the dems opposed to the good things. you should do something more realistic, like getting the great gazoo to teach them a moral lesson"

if you want to give the benefit of the doubt that dems actually want to do these things, it's clear that they only want to do them once victory is so overwhelmingly guaranteed thanks to the tireless efforts of other people so they can get a vote done in a week or less and then go home

We’re getting a Mark Cuban/Elon Musk ticket in 2028 aren’t we?

If anything, there is precedent for the “dumbing down” of the socialist parties in Europe and the Anglo-sphere to almost always precede an embrace of neoliberalism and a consequent abandonment of those parties by the working class. This has happened far too often to be a coincidence.

There is less than no historical precedent to indicate that the jargon has any appreciably negative impact on a movement’s ability to organize the masses.

The Bolsheviks and Chinese communists used as much 19th century Marxist jargon as anyone ever has and they both took power riding a revolutionary wave which was driven primarily by illiterate peasants.
April 8, 2025 at 11:59 PM
…and even the hardline anti-communists and left-liberal populists still went out of their way to dress all their positions in the language of Marx and Engels, jargon and all, and they built unprecedentedly large political bases among the workers of Europe.

I love when people do this shit because in the late 19th and early 20th centuries *Social-Democratic* parties were full of Marxists,…

Imagining an ancient Inkan Aaron Rodgers who did Ayahuasca so wrong that it motivated their whole society to put a million spiritual guardrails around the thing.

As old as many American politicians are today, very few of them were both alive, in their adulthood, and working in politics when the people’s republic of China was founded.

Also the Chinese revolution is a bit further removed than the Russian revolution was at the time. Many American capitalists and politicians personally remembered the Bolsheviks coming to power, and their fear of the same happening to them spurred them on.

Feel like people should remember that before the revolution (and even into modern times to an extent) one of the biggest stereotypes about Russians was that they gladly accepted autocratic tsarism and would never ever be capable of any political action outside of following orders from aristocrats.

FUCK oh my god it’s as if every American baby is given a lobotomy at birth. Nothing else can explain this ridiculous horseshit.

Do people just not understand what an idiom is anymore? When someone says “it’s raining cats and dogs out there” do these people look out the window expecting to see actual cats and dogs falling from the sky and splattering on the pavement?

OBVIOUSLY anyone mocking the phrase is just mocking the desire to selectively engage with harmful policies only when a certain person or party is in power, while ignoring the same things done by any other person or party. This isn’t fucking rocket science man holy shit.

I personally am not a morning person so if I eat anything resembling breakfast at all it is almost always technically brunch just because of the time of day. It was liberals who responded to various shit Trump did last time with phrases like “we should be at brunch rn” or whatever.
April 8, 2025 at 9:41 PM
I genuinely don’t understand how someone could misunderstand something so basic. Like it doesn’t have to be “brunch.” There is nothing about brunch specifically that has anything to do with anything.
April 8, 2025 at 9:41 PM
In the past week or so I’ve been enlightened to the fact that apparently people believe that when left-wingers mock liberals for “going back to brunch,” we are supposedly mad at the very concept of a meal between the traditional breakfast and lunch times, and not anything else.

If you were trying to design a system to select a country’s head executive that will most consistently produce palace intrigue and assassinations, that’s about exactly how it would look. You really gotta hand it to em.
April 8, 2025 at 9:25 PM
I remember in school learning how the vice presidency used to just be given to whoever came second in the presidential election and that was basically my first clue that the founders were all absolute fucking morons who shouldn’t have been allowed to design a paper plane, much less a whole country.

Idea.

Expand the Supreme Court with approximately 350 million new seats, implement numerous wide-reaching constitutional amendments through public referendum under the guise of judicial review.

America Fixed.

The trend among registered dems would seem to indicate they do not but then again, repeated experience of the reality of how the Democratic Party operates, along with the fact that I seem to remember some poll saying a majority of 2020 primary voters supported M4A makes it hard to feel confident.
