i mean it’s a perfect encapsulation of how oppression works:

- gratuitous provocation bordering on assault
- externalization of blame for one’s own aggression onto the victim of that aggression
- magnification of the aggression, justified by one’s own fake self-victimization

Like there was a definite move in the late 20th century against assimilation into the monolithic departments these groups could have been folded into—not saying that was a bad thing—so appealing to the lack of assimilation as itself a marker of non-privileged status feels a little dubious.

I think this claim is complicated by the fact that the biggest proponents of the advancement of women’s studies, gender studies, african american studies, etc as independent academic specializations have been members of those minorities.

If there’s one thing people should know about crypto, it’s that the crypto market’s main purpose is to function as a vehicle for organized crime.

like the consultants may say that “ACA subsidies are a hot issue!” and they’re probably right, but it won’t matter if you win over the public on ACA subsidies if the rule of law ceases to exist and your colleagues are being rounded up and thrown in prison.

one of the weird failures of current democratic leadership is their seeming inability to rank the existential priority of various projects or recognize what’s actually important vs what conveys the optics that align with their polling / focus groups.
November 15, 2025 at 6:31 PM
another way of looking at it: it’s possible to have multiple projects at the same time, recognizing that they are all important but some are more existentially urgent than others, because their success is a precondition for the success of other important projects. (no democracy -> no queer rights)
November 15, 2025 at 6:17 PM
in other words: it should be possible to build a united front that’s focused on uniting people in the fight for economic justice and a democratic political process without throwing women, minorities, trans people, etc. to the wolves.

“we need to build a majoritarian political coalition focused primarily on existential needs like protecting the political system from oligarchs, creating a social safety net, and reducing economic inequality”
