I try to be careful if/when recommending classic works to others, especially those most vulnerable to influence. I can remember how some of my formerly held views were influenced when I was younger.

I love getting to know my characters as I write them. It's more engaging for me than creating a list of traits to start with. Just like with people IRL, they get to show me who they are.

It does for contemporary works. I won't knowingly fund supporters of hate, bigotry, fascism, etc. But I'll still read/watch works from deceased people that held positions I stand against as long as the heirs don't hold the same views.

Demon Souls (before soulsbourne was a thing)! I played the original release and still remember the feeling of my first experiences in some of those levels.
