As with majority of Canada's wartime sailors, your dad would be part of the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve. The distinctive 'wavy lines' on his epaulettes gave rise to the RCNVR being dubbed 'The Wavey Navy'. Heros all!

The M1919A6 with it's bipod and shoulder stock was an attempt to make the .30 cal. into a better squad automatic. It was not successful.
