Right, but my argument is that even with those personality issues and scandals, being the principal reason a team won 3 super bowls in 4 years is more than enough to merit first-ballot status, regardless of what happened the rest of his career.

Brady is the most overrated football player of all time. Clutch is measured by how you perform in the playoffs, not how you perform in the 4th quarter. Tom Brady is 22nd all-time in playoff passer rating, but his defenses bailed him out consistently.

In points per drive (which does not care about that TOP you mentioned) they were 6th, 1st and 4th. 4QCs and GWDs are junk stats that mean nothing. Brady only needed to be heroic because he couldn't get the job done early in the game while his defense was smothering the opposition.

The defense was ranked #6, #1, and #2 in the league those three years. They won a conference championship game in which Brady led the offense to 0 points.

He won 3 super bowls in the early 2000s with the defense doing most of the heavy lifting, not Brady. You can say the game passed him by at some point but his record in those years still merits selection.
