Because your humanity, your innate capacity for goodness, will be your eternal compass in navigating the terrain. And because it is your humanity that will ultimately provide the seeds for repair, the fertilizer for a new future.

Within the pitch black, nothing will be left but one thing: your humanity — the cherished essence of your existence, the light of your being. Even this final possession may be stolen from you, turning you into a monster you never knew. So you must guard this treasure with all your might.

Above all, you must cherish your humanity. You may face moments — periods — of darkness that defy what you once thought fathomable. Despair that you never thought possible.

You must learn to discern the signal from the noise. You must keep your eyes trained on the ultimate ends: freedom and justice.

You must remember reality and maintain resolute focus. You must not lose yourself in a web of deception. You must constantly return to your core values and hold on to your relationships with those around you to help keep yourself grounded.

In this environment — where forces are pushing you from all sides to adopt what is wrong — it will be an extraordinary challenge to hold on to an objective notion of morality. But, please, you must.

In the end, as we turn the current pages of history, you must ask yourself this: What will my role in history be? Will I be on the side of freedom and justice? Or will I be on the side of oppression?

But, instead, they will be drawn in by the comfort of denialism and will choose complicity. And so, our greatest enemy is not the oppressor. Our greatest enemy is we ourselves.

The unwitting enablers — the most valuable type of enabler to every autocrat — will be the most dangerous. Ordinarily, they would be able to join with the objectors to stop the plunge into darkness.

In this calamity, we will have several groups. There will be perpetrators. There will be witting enablers. There will be unwitting enablers. There will be objectors.

Every one of us will have to grieve. Every one of us will have to cope. For life will never be as sweet...if it continues at all. Many will perish from mere burnout or hopelessness; the regime will not even need to kill them directly. Rates of depression will soar.

17/
February 20, 2025 at 9:43 PM
Most voices will tell you that it's not happening. That there is no need to worry. This is both denialism and propaganda.

You are about to find out how ignorant, how exploitable, and how depraved human nature can be.

Ultimately, every one of us will lose on some level.

All the while, the acolytes on the inside who may still possess some form of integrity within them — notwithstanding the wrongdoing they may have committed — cannot muster the courage or the resources to break away. The risk is too grave. The autocratic glue is too strong.

The more the assault proceeds, the more entrenched it becomes. The more the new rulers break the law, the even more compelled they become to pursue the takeover to full completion. The more social norms transform, the more society as a whole complies with radicalization.

Conformity, after all, is how one avoids persecution in an autocratic regime. This is surrender. This is the new survival. This is the normalization of the abnormal.

They are changing their personal and institutional priorities, abandoning their values, altering their speech and policies, and setting themselves up to gain the favor of the regime, either directly or indirectly.

They are creating the glue that holds autocratic regimes together.

People and institutions around you have started changing to accommodate the new rules — and indeed have already been doing so for some time.

They are not only bringing the thugs of their own ranks but also dragging otherwise well-meaning players into an orbit of lawlessness. They are creating an octopus of crime and atrocity that, if not stopped, will become nearly impossible to dismantle or escape from.

Currently, the cult now in power is screening out those who continue to subscribe to the old rules of the game and who are not sufficiently loyal to the new regime. They are persecuting truth tellers and punishing defectors.

9/
February 20, 2025 at 9:43 PM
They will make impunity the order of the day. They will turn the abnormal into the normal. It is a new equilibrium for society: an autocratic equilibrium rather than a democratic equilibrium. A much inferior equilibrium, unfortunately, but an equilibrium nonetheless.

It is no longer about promoting the public good but plundering the public resources. Bad actors will be explicitly and brazenly rewarded. Violating the law will be protected — and openly encouraged.

7/
February 20, 2025 at 9:43 PM
As the autocratic transition unfolds, they are rewriting the rules of the game — the fundamental norms and expectations that govern society. Now, moving forward, society is no longer based on the rule of law, but the law of rule.

They want to burn you out. To beat you into submission. To force you to surrender. To surrender your resistance, for one. But most fundamentally, your morals, your spirit, and your humanity. They want to burn you to the ground.

The chaos is the point. The impossibility of tracking all of the debacles. The lost sense of time. The exhaustion. The feeling that ten, or maybe a hundred, years worth of damage have hit you in the course of just one month. This is all the point...

To attack you faster than you ever have a chance to respond. And to exploit your naivete, gullibility, and complacency; some of you, in fact, do not even know what is happening.
