Some old Babylon 5 renders of mine for #NostalgiaSunday

These were all made in the late-90s or early-2000s with #LightWave3D and are presented here in all their low-res glory. /1 🧵
'Shadows over Jupiter' - a simple render, but one of my favourite B5 LightWave images. Made Jan 2000. I’m pretty sure the Whitestar was by Kier Darby [ap3d.com], who wrote a very popular step-by-step tutorial revealing how it was made, textures and all. That’s how I — and many others — learned how to use splines to make these tricky organic shapes. One of my more elaborate renders. Note the Daffy Duck Starfury wingart! I was proud of that one. Feb 2000. Centauri Primus warship (IIRC). June 2000. The Centauri Primus was the work of Fabio Passaro (RIP) who may also have built the Starfuries from the previous shot.

Rough stone steps wind around the side of a hill defining the cliff's edge in their slow ascent. As the path turns sharply, the eroded ground beneath forms an overhang. The sky beyond is suffused with golden radiance layered with grey-blue clouds. The trees at the edge of the cliff, already in the transition to autumn, are lit by the warm glow of sunset creating a contrast of light and shadow up thick textured trunks. Out over the edge, hovering in the open air, a woman in a long dress holds her hands out as if presenting a clear spherical vessel containing a solitary flame. Bathed in the light of sunset, she stares off panel into the far distance while a pair of doves flies low, sweeping over the curving steps.
